HIV/AIDS Volunteer Trips
Due to the fact that I haven’t been able to participate in any mission trips recently (time, money, etc) along with my ongoing dream of visiting Africa, I have decided to do a 4-week mission trip to Kenya and a 6-week mission trip to Honduras next spring 2007. In both locations I will get the opportunity to work with the locals on HIV/AIDS education & prevention along with learning Spanish and Swahili.
The upside of this, aside from me getting to spend time in 2 countries I've never been to before, is that it gives me a fair amount of experience performing work in the field of public health. As many of you may or may not know, I have decided to apply for grad school next year with the hopes of getting my masters in public health, specifically in global health and infectious disease control. What better way to get a head start than to work with AIDS in 2 3rd world countries??? The down side is, volunteering seems to always come with expenses and this trip is no exception. Therefore, I am extending my hands and turning them palms up so all the wonderful, giving people I know can drop some spare change in them! The total amount for both trips is ~$3600 and that includes all my expenses (food, board, transportation in country, program fees, orientation, language lessons, etc). All donations will be thoroughly appreciated. A better description of the donor levels can be found on the donation link. Thanks! |
